What's On Your Desk?

Last night, I was reading a description that someone made of their desk. It was an interesting description because they had interesting stuff. In contrast, my desk is covered with the impersonal. Notebooks, folders, papers, a couple of mass spec manuals, a list of upcoming science seminars, two paper clips, a flash drive, a phone, a laptop, one black pen. My desk is next to a window, but the blinds are closed. Even if they were open, I would only see the tops of buildings. Unlike everyone else, I do not have photographs of family or pets, drawings, postcards, toys, clocks, calendars, or even a colorful container for holding writing utensils. If a desk is a reflection of one's personality, I must be the most boring person in the world.

Comments:
My desk at work is 100% impersonal. I do not even have much personal stuff in my office generally, just one art poster, and several thank you notes that students have sent me pinned to a bulletin board.

At home is a different story. I've lived in the same house for 20 years and the office is small, and cluttered. This post made me scan my desktop, and the most interesting curiousities are a can of Raid (?), a log cabin incense burner, a metal Halloween pail with a cartoon cat, a small print with an illustration called "Lazy Pig," an antique Easter basket, and an old pentium chip, from when it was first released, had a flaw and had to be replaced.

Hm, well, I didn't describe my desk at home--if anything, it's even more bare than the one at work that I had described and I don't think anyone wants to waste time reading about a desert.

The can of Raid is definitely interesting. Bug infestation?
