SCENE 5: KITCHEN, CONTINUED

ILARI

I'm sure you'd like to freshen up while dinner is being prepared.  Madam liked to take her meals in the dining room.

VASILISSA

Really, I'm not that much into formalities.  You three were the last to see Aunt Babs before the accident, yes?

FYODOR

You could say that, if you didn't count Kos.

VASILISSA

Who's Kos?

ILARI

Perhaps you would like to take the tea with you as Fyodor or Nikon show you to your room.  We'll tell you more about him in good time.

VASILISSA

Now I'm really curious...ahh!

SOUND: A porcelain teacup crashes to the floor

VASILISSA

What the hell is that?

ILARI

(nervously)

That's Kos.

VASILISSA

That's not a person.  That's an eye!  A huge, ugly yellow eye staring at us through the kitchen door.

NIKON

Sure, state the obvious.  Of course it's an eye.  It's part of Kos.  As far as we can figure, it's a magical construct that he uses to spy on us.

VASILISSA

Spy?  Why?  Is he the one responsible for the spell on Aunt Babs?

FYODOR

Yes.  But perhaps now is not the right time to explain things.  After all, he is watching us.

VASILISSA

And he knows I'm here.

NIKON

Maybe you'll like to see the guest room, miss?

SOUND: the scrape of a chair as it's pushed backward

VASILISSA

(to Kos' eye)

I might be Aunt Babs' relative, but I know absolutely nothing about the situation.  I demand that you give me a reason why you felt it necessary to...

SOUND: Vasilissa screams as a jolt of electricity from kos' eye zaps her

NIKON

Silly girl!

ILARI

Stop yelling at her.  Take her to that first guest room and make sure she didn't hit her head too badly.  Fyodor and I will try to patch things up here.

NIKON

Patch things up?  Are you sure?  Kos looks like he's about to pop a blood vessel.

FYODOR

Just take her up to the guest room.  You know Miss Downes isn't the real target of his wrath.
